Transferred from Sassuolo to West Ham last summer for 36 million euros, Gianluca Scamacca has scored just eight goals in 27 games in all competitions. A far cry from his usual standards. When asked about this, the Italian admitted that he had been playing injured all season.

“Maybe people don’t know, but I played the whole year with a ruptured meniscus. At one point, it was impossible to continue and I had to undergo surgery. Up until March, I played 27 games and scored eight goals. It could have been better, but it could have been worse… The Conference was a great joy for everyone: it had been our goal since the start of the season. It’s true that I didn’t play in the final with Fiorentina, but of course I feel that the Conference is mine: in the Cup, I scored three goals in seven games,” Gianluca Scamacca told Gazzetta Dello Sport.
