Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has made some revelations to Cronache di Spogliatoio. He confessed that he had almost succeeded in bringing the famous Marcelo Bielsa to the club. But the deal fell through at the last minute.
“I had in mind to bring Bielsa to Rome, it would have been an excellent idea. We met in Madrid. He arranged to meet me at a house number, because we wanted to avoid a public place. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such plastic passion as I saw in Marcelo. He knew almost all the Primavera players. In Rome, I was in the middle of a dozen crossfire and I have to admit I was scared. I also said to him: “Marcelo, I’m scared because it takes too much time.” It would have been a wonderful choice. I’m really sorry I didn’t see the right time to take it. It would have been a huge growth for me too,” said Sabatini.
