Italy could opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation for their EURO opener against Albania after testing the system in training.

This is the first match in the group, followed by Spain on June 20 and Croatia on June 24. La Nazionale had everyone at training today, including Nicolò Barella and Nicolò Fagioli, but Sky Sport Italia reported that the Juventus midfielder is struggling with a fibula and will not be risked for this match. As for the Inter star, he has only just returned to training after a muscle problem, so it is entirely possible that he will initially be rested to start against Spain and Croatia instead. Spalletti tested the 4-2-3-1 formation in training today, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Federico Dimarco at the back. Italy’s coach had said he would most likely use a four-man defense against teams that will play with a single striker, and that’s the situation with Albania. Bryan Cristante is the favorite to form a duo with Jorginho in midfield, with Federico Chiesa, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Davide Frattesi bringing creativity to lone striker Gianluca Scamacca.
