Tottenham’s Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario gave an interview to Radio Serie A in which he spoke briefly about Gianluigi Buffon. The former Udinese goalkeeper revealed just how important the presence of the Italian legend is to the Squadra Azzurra. He also revealed that the former Juventus keeper was a role model for him.
“The first goalkeeper I followed was Buffon. When I was a kid, I used to go to the stadium to watch Udinese, who at the time were just one step away from the Europe that counts, and my aim was to get to the stadium in time to see the goalkeepers warm up, and therefore Handanovic, and to see everything he did before and after he took to the field. I think the great career he had was also thanks to his leadership: sometimes even silent, a glance was enough to give respect and credibility to his teammates. Having him with us at national team matches is very important. He always gives us invaluable advice, and goalkeeper to goalkeeper, it’s always easier to understand each other,” declared Guglielmo Vicario.
