Simon Kjaer has resumed collective training in Milanello, ready to return to the pitch after two months’inactivity.

The 34-year-old Danish central defender was a rotation option at the start of the season before suffering from muscle fatigue in October. The problem continued to persist, forcing him to miss the last six consecutive league outings. Kjaer’s injury came at a bad time for AC Milan, who are facing an injury crisis this season. Malick Thiaw, Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino are all out of action in defence, severely limiting Stefano Pioli’s options. As Calciomercato.com points out, Kjaer has begun working with his team-mates in Milanello, returning to collective training after a two-month absence. Although he is unlikely to start against Monza, the veteran Dane could start on the bench. Kjaer’s contract with AC Milan expires at the end of this season, and it seems unlikely that it will be extended, as the veteran defender has suffered numerous injuries in recent seasons.
