Lazio have received a boost in their pursuit of Rayan Cherki after Olympique Lyonnais confirmed that he’s likely to leave this summer.
He turns 21 later this month and his contract with Lyon only runs until June 2025, so with no chance of an extension, he must be sold now or risk being a free agent. “We spoke to him at the beginning of the summer and we are trying to find a solution. He will certainly leave. I think it must be an advantageous situation for him. He is a product of this club and has given us a lot, but there are times in a career when you have to look elsewhere,” said sporting director David Friio. There is competition from Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain for the creative midfielder, who can also play on the left or right wing. Cherki is a product of the Olympique Lyonnais youth academy and has been promoted to the senior team from January 2020. He has 116 Ligue 1 appearances to his name, scoring six goals and providing 16 assists.
