Gianluigi Buffon hung up his boots some time ago. The former Juventus legend is currently head of the Azzurri delegation. In a recent interview with La Repubblica, he explains his failed transfers to Roma and many other European clubs.

“In 2001, when I came from Parma, I almost joined Roma. It was a question of details. Then with Barcelona. In the end, I went to Juve. In 2005, a big foreign club wanted me, but I didn’t think about it. In 2011, I was going to Roma again: Montali called me, I liked him and something had broken with Juve. But then Conte came along and imposed my presence. When I came back to Juve after leaving Psg, I was going to Porto. I had already seen the flights and the city. And twice again, I was very close to Atalanta. The second time, I made up my mind. But at Juve, they know me like the back of their hand. They organized a meeting with me, Paratici and Pirlo. He said to me: ‘Gigi, man, this is my first year as a coach, I came here knowing you were here… What could I say to him?” declared Gianluigi Buffon.
