Federico Chiesa could be dropped to the bench by Luciano Spalletti for Italy’s decisive Euro 2024 match against Croatia.

Juventus’s 26-year-old winger struggled to show his best form in Germany, although he did pick up the man-of-the-match award after the win over Albania. In the loss to Spain, he was anonymous and was substituted after 64 minutes. It hasn’t been an easy season for Chiesa, and many doubts surround him ahead of the upcoming mercato. According to information from Corriere dello Sport, Spalletti is considering leaving Chiesa on the bench for Italy’s final Group B match against Croatia, with the idea of bringing in the Juventus winger for the last 30 minutes of the match rather than relying on him from the start. If the 26-year-old were to start, it would be his third start in nine days, a heavy workload for a player who has struggled to find his best form after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in January 2022.
