Fabio Cannavaro, Italian soccer icon turned coach, managed Benevento in Serie B for a few months before handing in his apron. He talks about the reasons for his departure. For him, the club wasn’t ambitious enough, and he didn’t want to go from good in China to bad in his homeland.
“In China, where I had the satisfaction of being called up by coach Lippi, I won. At Benevento, I fell into a reality that wasn’t my own, because the club had perhaps lost its ambition. The experience left me a little “burnt out”, because the idea of sporting failure is still fresh in people’s minds. But I’ve got an important name and I can’t go from being good in China to bad in Italy,” the 2006 Ballon d’Or winner told Sport Week.
