Former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga recently came to the defense of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was targeted after making a few mistakes against Macedonia. For the former goalkeeper, a single mistake does not define a goalkeeper. He renewed his confidence in the PSG keeper.

“At the end of the day, you could say it’s a case of naivety. But on the ground, things are different from what you see on TV. The strength of a great goalkeeper is to make a point and throw it back. Donnarumma is one meter ninety-six. Vicario is one meter ninety-three. Sommer is only one meter eighty-three. Their stature is completely different. On a similar ball, there is no technique that works for all three. Sommer uses the reach hand to stretch himself further, but it’s not a religion. It’s the instinct of the man who stands between the posts, with all his responsibility. That’s why I say: don’t shoot Gigio. I absolve him,” Walter Zenga told Corriere Dello Sport.
