Italian soccer legend Dino Zoff has commented on Roberto Mancini’s departure as coach of the Squadra Azzurra. The 82 world champion expressed his astonishment at the situation.
“I was also surprised because a week ago he was appointed coordinator of all the national teams. Mancini has certainly done a good job, the European title won after more than 50 years was a blow, certainly the failure to qualify for the World Cup on a balance sheet can’t fail to weigh heavily. I don’t want to say too much about his possible replacement. I’ve read that Conte and Spalletti are already being mentioned as excellent coaches. I’m convinced that the Federation will be able to find a coach worthy of our national team’s history,” continues the 1982 World Cup-winning goalkeeper and captain.
