CONI president Giovanni Malagò admits that Inter reaching the Champions League final against Manchester City will serve as “good publicity” for the sale of Serie A television rights.

“It’s a great advantage for a thousand reasons. There were 130 countries to watch, because the Champions League doesn’t just involve Europe, but people from all over the world. This means that being there will have a positive impact on our soccer and will act as a good advertisement to sell the rights of Serie A,” Malagò told Sky Sport Italia. The Premier League is an unstoppable behemoth when it comes to revenue, and much of that depends on collectively sold TV rights deals. Serie A is trying to catch up at least a little on this front, but the difference is in the investment that even the smaller Premier League teams are able to make compared to Italian giants like Inter, Juventus and AC Milan. Inter hopes to become the first Italian team to win the Champions League since 2010, when Jose Mourinho achieved a historic treble at the same club.
