Reigning Italian champions Napoli are struggling in Serie A this season. The Azzurri are 8th in the Italian championship with 28 points, 17 behind current leaders Inter Milan. The team is no longer performing well. The summer mercato is certainly to blame. To this end, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is considering parting company with his current sporting director. A new name is already being considered.
In July 2023, Cristiano Giuntoli will leave his position as sporting director of Napoli to join Juventus in the same role. Mauro Meluso was appointed to the Partenopei instead. Meluso has overseen a number of transactions, including the departure of Kim Min-Jae, the club’s best defender last season. Basically, the transactions were inconclusive, as Napoli have since become much weaker. President De Laurentiis, acknowledging his responsibilities, is now talking about a change at the head of the sporting department, reports Tuttosport. Gianluca Petrachi, formerly of Roma and Turin, is the profile currently under consideration.
