Atalanta and Genoa have reportedly reached an agreement on the permanent transfer of Italian international Mateo Retegui, according to several outlets.

The Argentinian-born Azzurri striker is on the verge of joining Gian Piero Gasperini’s team for a €25 million contract, comprising €22 million upfront and €3 million in bonuses, according to Sky Sport Italia, Gianluca Di Marzio, Matteo Moretto and others. The 25-year-old only moved to Serie A to join Genoa last summer in a deal that earned a 15 million euro fee for his former club, Tigre. Atalanta rushed negotiations to secure a new central striker following the serious knee injury suffered by Retegui’s international teammate, Gianluca Scamacca. The Italian international is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six months, which will exclude him from more than half of the Serie A season. Fortunately for La Dea, an agreement with Genoa was reached quickly, and Retegui is now expected to leave for Bergamo later this evening. He is due to have his medical with Atalanta on Thursday.
