Alexis Saelemaekers has spoken about his decision to join Bologna this summer and how it’s helped him rediscover some of the “joy” he’d lost while with AC Milan.
Alexis Saelemaekers, under contract with AC Milan until 2026, is on loan to Bologna with an option to buy. After going through a difficult period on a personal level in previous seasons at the San Siro, the Belgian told La Gazzetta that Bologna coach Thiago Motta had managed to put a smile back on his face, right from their first interaction. “I’ve never spoken with a coach like that before. I had lost that joy last year with AC Milan, I didn’t have much confidence or minutes on the pitch. He told me I would be an important player for him. I want to win again. When I arrived at AC Milan at the age of 20, the situation was similar to what I see here at Bologna. It’s a good team with lots of exciting young players, experienced players and a desire to grow and progress,” said the Belgian international.
