Alex Sandro was in tears as he bid farewell to Juventus after a record 327 appearances, even scoring a goal. “I’ve never cried so much in my life”.
The Brazilian international’s contract expires on June 30 and will not be renewed, so he received a warm send-off at Juventus Stadium. “It was emotional for me, I’ve never cried so much in my life. That goes for the whole week, not just today. It’s been such a wonderful journey, and I’d like to thank the fans, the city and the team-mates from my first year to today. I’m proud of myself and what I’ve accomplished. Over the past few days, I’ve told everyone that trophies and finals are lovely, but what I’m taking away is the connection with the people. What I remember about Juve is the love and respect. When people say that Juventus is a big family, that’s how I feel. I want to thank the fans for welcoming me into their homes, into their families, into their lives. My heart will always be here, it will always have a space reserved for all the Bianconeri. It’s impossible to talk about my career without mentioning Allegri. I learned so much from him, and he had so much confidence in me as a player and as a person. He is a special person in my life,” Alex Sandro told DAZN. After the match, there was also a special jersey with his name and 327 on the back, as he equalled Pavel Nedved’s record for the most appearances in a Juventus shirt for a foreign player. His team-mates then threw him into the air before he presented the Coppa Italia trophy to the crowd.
