Roma and Italy striker Stephan El Shaarawy has been named by Fabrizio Corona as one of the players involved in the betting scandal, but has assured his lawyers that he “has nothing to do with gambling of any kind”.
“We have few words, but they are clear: Stephan El Shaarawy has nothing to do with gambling. He has never gambled and has never had any desire to do so. He is totally relaxed in the face of totally unfounded and slanderous accusations. Above all, we will take all necessary measures to protect our client. This is what we have to say following the claims made by Fabrizio Corona to Striscia La Notizia”, said the Italian international’s lawyers. The Turin public prosecutor also informed news sources yesterday that El Shaarawy, Gatti and Casale are not under investigation, as there is currently no evidence linking them to gambling.
