AC Milan are looking abroad for a coach to replace Stefano Pioli, with names such as Mark van Bommel, Christophe Galtier, Paulo Fonseca, Julen Lopetegui and Marcelo Gallardo on the shortlist.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, club owner Gerry Cardinale has already decided to sack Pioli at the end of this season, even if he wins the Derby della Madonnina to block Inter’s Scudetto celebrations on Monday. Cardinale is reportedly looking abroad for his next coach, with several different names mentioned in the media. Gazzetta dello Sport profiles their main candidates, with current LOSC boss Fonseca and former Spain, Real Madrid and Wolves coach Lopetegui the favourites. Other options include Al Ittihad coach Gallardo, best known for his work with River Plate and Nacional de Montevideo, and Al-Duhail boss Galtier. A cheaper alternative would be to promote Ignazio Abate of the Primavera youth team to the top job, especially after he led AC Milan to their first-ever UEFA Youth League final.
