After an emotional goodbye to Stefano Pioli, AC Milan are ready to welcome Paulo Fonseca, who is set to start a new cycle at the club.
The Rossoneri bid farewell to their Italian coach in a packed San Siro on Saturday evening after their 3-3 draw with Salernitana, bringing to a close a five-year spell in the Lombard capital that saw him win a Scudetto and take the club to the Champions League semi-finals. Fonseca has been named the leading candidate to replace Pioli at AC Milan, having beaten off competition from the likes of Sergio Conceicao, Julen Lopetegui and Mark van Bommel. Fans are divided over his imminent appointment, but the club’s management have remained firm in their choice. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan are ready to welcome Fonseca after their friendly against Roma in Australia, offering either a two-year contract with an option for a third, or a three-year deal worth around 3 million euros net per season. Technical coach Daniele Bonera will lead the Rossoneri in their friendly match on May 31 before Fonesca arrives next month, starting a new cycle at the club.
