La Gazzetta dello Sport’s England correspondent Davide Chinellato spoke to Newcastle fans, and the vast majority are defending Italy international Sandro Tonali despite his involvement in a betting scandal: “He’s part of the family”.
Tonali is reportedly ready to negotiate a plea deal but faces a suspension of at least 18 months for his involvement in a betting scandal in Italy, La Gazzetta reported on Monday. According to the report, most Newcastle fans are defending Tonali despite his involvement in the scandal. “Whatever he’s done, here at Newcastle we don’t care, he’s part of the family and we’ll support him forever. He is one of us, so we will continue to support him. It doesn’t matter what he has done. What matters to us is the way he plays. That’s the only thing we care about from the moment he wore our shirt,” Steven, one of the Magpies fans, told Chinellato. Tonali has returned to Newcastle and is expected to train with the team today. The Premier League team has yet to issue an official comment on Tonali’s involvement in the scandal and according to La Gazzetta, the former Milan midfielder is expected to play in the next few games for his club.
