Giovanni Galli, former Italian goalkeeper and 1982 World Champion, spoke about Gianluigi Donnarumma’s role in the national team. He revealed that a little competition, particularly with Gugliemo Vicario, could boost the PSG keeper.
“Perhaps a healthy rivalry could be good for Donnarumma. If he had fierce competition, he’d probably put aside superficiality and his concentration would rise even higher. Donnarumma and Vicario are like those who had a freeway in front of them, like the former, and those who had to do the Via Crucis, like the latter. He started out in the reserves, made a few appearances for Cagliari, played in Serie B and Serie A for Empoli, and then exploded. Alternating with the national team? Perhaps. Spalletti has to protect Donnarumma first, but you can’t clip the wings of someone who explodes like Vicario,” Giovanni Galli told Gr Rai.
