While we wait for the mercato to end, 38 French players are on the books of Serie A clubs. Here are those who are particularly eagerly awaited
Kephren Thuram (Juventus)
One of the Old Lady’s star recruits and one of the few satisfactions of the laborious pre-season. After arriving from Nice, he needs to establish himself at Juventus if he is to make a permanent appearance in the French national team. The Italian derby against his Inter brother will be one of the highlights of the year.
Enzo Le Fée (AS Roma)
Brought over from Rennes during the off-season, he impressed during the friendlies and already seems indispensable to his coach, Daniele De Rossi. Le Fée has already demonstrated his versatility and is on the right track.
Theo Hernandez (Milan)
One of Serie A’s leading lights, and now Milan’s captain as Davide Calabria, who usually carries the armband, is likely to end up on the bench. Theo will have to be a guide for Paulo Fonseca, his new coach, and if things go well, he could extend his contract with Milan.
Florian Thauvin (Udinese)
He too will be donning the captain’s armband, his new status a year after joining Udinese. A turning point? It would appear so, given that in the first round of the Italian Cup, he scored a goal and provided two assists!
Raphael Varane (Como)
One of the sensations of the summer mercato, the 2018 world champion has left Mancherster United and embraced the project of Como, a promoted side dreaming big with Fabregas on the bench. His injury in his first game was a reminder of his fragility, but the season is still long.
